The Lasarte-based refrigerated transport company Tudefrigo has acquired 20% of the capital of the Brazilian logistics operator Center Cargo, according to company sources who did not reveal the amount of the transaction. According to Tudefrigo, it is a strategic operation which will provide access to the sizeable Brazilian market and a substantial fruit produce managed by Center Cargo in that country for distribution in the Spanish and European markets.
In addition to its headquarters in Lasarte, Tudefrigo owns large cold stores in Tudela and two subsidiaries in Portugal (Orinoco) and Romania (Erocargo) as well as several sales offices. Its total workforce is 120 people and last year had a €15M turnover. Center Cargo has eleven affiliates in Brazil, one in Miami and one in Chile. It transports perishable goods, chiefly fish and fruit, as well as pharmaceuticals, and it is the largest shipper with the Brazilian Airline TAM.
